About Janina

The mezzo-soprano Janina Raguse studied classical singing with Hanneke de Wit at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen, and with Marjan Kuiper at ArtEZ Conservatory  in Zwolle by whom she is also currently being coached.

She participated in masterclasses with Evelyn Tubb, Nico van der Meel, Njål Sparbo, Jard van Nes, and more.

Since 2014, Janina is active as a soloist in oratorio and lied. A few notable oratorio projects include a rendition of G.F.Händels Messiah with Stichting MUSA, led by Chris Holman at Theater Geert Teis in Stadskanaal in 2014 and Heinrich Fidelis Müllers Weihnachtsoratorium with Kamerkoor Bel Canto, led by Bouko Tiggelaar in 2014 and 2017.

Her special enthusiasm for lied repertoire has led Janina to form Lied Duos and give recitals with different pianists on a regular basis from 2014 tilll 2016, such as Lagusa Duo with pianist Marta Fernandez, with whom she held a recital at the Groninger Museum during the exhibition „Het geheimnis van Dresden“ and LiedDuo Raguse/Soltész with pianist Andras Soltesz, with whom she has been booked for recitals in Zweeloo and Groningen. With pianist Roelfke Huttenga she formed Duo Èlan in 2016, with whom she keeps playing until today.

She also sings professionally in choirs, as „Messiah“ in 2016 and „Matthäus Passion“ in 2017 with Vocaalensemble Cantatrix in Groningen, Leeuwarden, Delft, Amsterdam, Utrecht and Den Haag.  In 2019 she sang Bachs “Matthew Passion” in Eindhoven, Maastricht and Venlo with “studium chorale”, conducted by Jos van Veldhoven.

Janina taught at the Musische Akademie Emden and was a vocal coach for the Roden Girl Choristers. Guiding her students to understand and enjoy their vocal development is still a great passion of hers, and she continues to teach several private students.

In 2017 Janina joined the opera ensemble “L’Ardente” with whom she performed the role of Lauretta in „Il maestro di musica“ by G.B. Pergolesi in Scheveningen at the „Mallemolen Theater“ in Den Haag.

Janina appears on the theatrical CD “Krieg” by HJ Vermeulen with whom she has frequent concerts and is at this moment recording a new album.
